Our Cup Runneth Over
by Sharee Lemos - will be updated June 2008

Well, it looks like I got a little waylaid on the journey to March. The

first part of this column would have been in my February column; my

apologies to the Foland family for this being reported so late. But itšs

still good news!.......Chaz Foland (son of Denise and Charlie; grandson to

Betty and Chuck) is participating in the Study Abroad Hawaii program for

the 2008 spring semester. Through LeMoyne College where he is a sophomore,

Chaz is attending Hawaii Pacific University studying Economics & Finance. He

lives in student housing in downtown Waikiki Beach two blocks from the

Pacific Ocean. He started school on the 22nd of January and was there

exploring starting on January 6th. He took a part time job as a chaperone

for Japanese high school students studying English in Honolulu. He basically

accompanies them to different venues such as museums, aquariums, and

volcanoes! The students are permitted to speak only English. The service

also pays his admission fees and lunch. Not bad! You can E-mail him for more

info on his activities. Folandce@stu.lemoyne.edu or CFOLAND@CAMPUS.HPU.EDU

Herešs his address in case you would like to send him a note or card: Chaz

Foland 2280 Kuhio Avenue Room # 1090 Honolulu, Hawaii 96815Š.. Katie

Lemos (daughter of Sharee and Lou) had another play accepted for production.

This time it was for the Strawberry One Act Play Festival in New York City.

Unfamiliar with the Strawberry Festival, I didnšt understand why she was so

excited about it. You see, she works as a waitress at a lot of catering

events; I naturally thought she would be dressed like a strawberry, serving

shortcake to the patrons. But no! Her play was part of a one act play

competition. On February 16, Arthur Lemos, Joe Pierce and Lou and I

traveled to NYC to see her production. It was a very moving lyrical play

about a young husband coping with the death of his wife. She went on to the

next stage of the competition but didnšt win the prize money. We learned

that what is prevalent today in the playwriting world is vile language and

meaningless topics. She was not discouraged though; she was glad to have had

the opportunity to see her work onstageŠ. Tyler Hamlin (son of Margie and

Howie; grandson of Mary) is on the Honor Role for the first time in his high

school career!!! Congratulations, Tyler!!!...Jeff Reeves (son of Luana and

David; grandson of Gen and Roger Buckler) has recently become engaged to

Heather, the love of his life. (Details to follow, as they arrive.)ŠSasha

Cadiz (daughter of Amy and Garth) was accepted to all of the colleges to

which she applied: St. Bonaventure, Conesus, and Niagara. She liked Niagara

University the best it had the best program and gave her the most money,

so shešs going there!! (She is such a smart girl!) Sasha spent her winter

break in El Salvador on a missionary trip with Young Life. She saw many of

the kids that she met in that country last year when she went on her first

missionary trip to El Salvador with Young Life. I hope that her letter is

enclosed in this newsletter; her group did wonderful things that she should

tell you about!ŠMore great news! Dr. Malcolm Payne, who is a

gynecologist/obstetrician, was asked to join the staff at Dartmouth College

Hospital!! Malcolm, you will remember, is married to Pastor Dick and

Paulašs daughter, Kristen. They have two children, Josh and Georgia, and

the family will be moving from London to New Hampshire in April!!...Marcus

Daniels was home for part of Holy Week and joined us at our Maundy Thursday

dinner. He brought with him his very lovely girlfriend, Tori. It is

wonderful to see them so happy! Tori is from North Carolina, a long way

from Marcusš job in Philadelphia. Marcus works for a deaf school where he

teaches sign language to 3 and 4 year olds. When school is out, Marcus will

travel to Charlotte where he hopes to find an engineering job and get his

career in gearŠ.I have had some time to reflect on things since my mother

died in January. One of the things she taught us to treasure is our faith

and our friends. It is a very special place, Eastwood Baptist Church. After

she died, the hardest thing to do was go to church; so much of my life has

been lived there. I have made lifelong friends of every age in this church;

they give me love and support always. We share a history and a safe haven.

Thank you all for so much compassion and friendship for all the years of my

life.

See you in church! God bless you all,

Sharee
